About This Item

Ancient world bse Bassett, Samuel Eliot. The Poetry of Homer. (Sather classical lectures; v. 15, 1938). Berkeley, California: University of California Press, (1938), 273p, notes, index.

This is a photo reprint, probably from the 1980's, when a professor of classics was studying in Tubingen. Seems he had privately reprinted a number of works on the ancient work. Must have been very expensive for him. Very good. Red cloth spine, matching gray paper over boards, paper label on spine. $15.00 Box 12

Contents: An important Homeric problem and its postulates -- The epic illusion -- The epic illusion (continued) -- The breaking of the epic illusion -- The poet and his audience -- The poet as singer -- Homer the poetic demiurge -- The poet as realist and as idealist.
