Capricorn Books (G.B. Putnam), 1960. Soft cover. Good. 257 pages. Selected, edited, and translated by George Reavey with an essay on the life and writings of Pasternak. Reavey knew Pasternak for 30 years. His essay, "Boris Pasternak: The Man, the Poet and the Theorist of Beauty", comprises the first 100 pages of this edition. Also included is Pasternak's speech "On Modesty and Boldness", at the Writers' Plenum in Minsk, 1936. Mass-market paperback, spine sunned, small chips to crown and heel, light wear and soil to wraps, edge and page margins age-tanned, foxing to top edge and inside covers. Name of former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff and date July 1960 written on title page, his underscoring and/or marginalia on eight pages - one in the intro, seven in the speech. Newspaper clipping of photo of Pasternak is laid in.
