Volume One of a set of two volumes with portraits. 786pp illustrated with black and white portrait to frontis. Marbled endpapers. Bound in ivory cloth over paper boards, with gilt lining, gilt floral design to spine with gilt lettering on burgundy title label. Top edges gilt, rest rought cut and sunned. Paper on boards worn and darkened, with some fraying to edges. Creasing to corners, inscription to endpaper, otherwise good/fair reading copy..
