About This Item

London: Frederick Warne and Co., c1891. Leather. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. The Poetical Works of Mrs. Hemans reprinted from the early editions with Memoir, Explanatory Notes &c. Felicia Hemans (1793 - 1835) was an English poet. Her major collections, including The Forest Sanctuary (1825), Records of Woman and Songs of the Affections (1830) were immensely popular, especially with female readers. Her last books, sacred and profane, are the substantive Scenes and Hymns of Life and National Lyrics, and Songs for Music. Hemans was a well-known literary figure, highly regarded by contemporaries such as Wordsworth, and with a popular following in the United States and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. In a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities and slight marginal fading to rear board. Front hinge strained. Internally, firmly bound although front free endpaper absent due to hinge. Bright and generally clean throughout but with slight background foxing to half title and a slight tidemarks to rear. Very Good
