About This Item

LONDON: WARD, LOCK & CO LIMITED. Collected works of Longfellow. Preface by William Michael Rossetti. The book is undated but is circa 1890s. Exterior covers are missing. Cloth bound. Green endpapers, with a gold plant leaf pattern on them(which have small areas of tearing/pieces missing on corners). Illustration of Longfellow at forty, opposite title page(separated by an integral sheet of tracing paper, which has some foxing marks). Exterior spine binding appears to be leather, but is severely surface worn and cracked. Small areas on the top and bottom retain their original red colour, the rest of the spine looks white. An area of printed text appears on the bottom third of the spine(it appears to be a extract from the book). The book is gilt edged on top, bottom and sides of pages. Binding is strong. Pages are clean with only very light foxing. Small black and white illustrations at beginning and end of poems. . Poor. Hardcover.
