As you can tell by browsing my collection of Edgar Allan Poe books here, I have many publications of Mr. Poe's works. Of all these books, this is one of my absolute favorites for many reasons. This edition is stunning and contains some of Poe's most significant works and engravings not found in any other editions from any era. A genuine 1872 printing that was printed and bound in Scotland back in the days of the horse and carriage. The craftsmanship and work that went into making this book is astounding, and no publishing house today could rival its quality. Books like these are tough to find, and as time progresses, they only become more scarce and valuable. This is a superb choice if you love Poe and want an ultimate book on his writings. I must note that this book does not have a "shaky or floppy binding," as many of these early 19th-century editions tend to exhibit. The binding is solid, and all the pages are firmly affixed without any looseness whatsoever.

Step into the bewitching world of Edgar Allan Poe with this extraordinary 1872 printing of his timeless poems. Immerse yourself in the haunting beauty of Poe's words as you explore this remarkable collector's item, adorned with an intricate gold embellished cover and illustrated with 27 captivating engravings. It also has a section titled (Memoir) which is devoted to the history and life of Edgar A. Poe.

The ornate gold embellishments on the cover of this edition serve as a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of a bygone era. Each delicate detail has been meticulously crafted, making this book an actual work of art that demands admiration.

Edgar Allan Poe's poems have captivated readers for generations, and this 1872 printing allows you to experience his genius uniquely. With every turn of the page, you'll be transported to a world of gothic beauty, melancholic introspection, and profound emotions.

Owning a piece of literary history is a privilege, and this 1872 printing holds a special place in the hearts of bibliophiles and Poe enthusiasts alike. Its rarity and historical significance make it a sought-after item for collectors looking to enrich their libraries with a genuinely exceptional addition.

Whether you are an avid collector, a passionate reader, or a lover of all things Poe, this 1872 printing is an investment that transcends time. Its enduring value and the joy it brings will continue growing, making it a coveted asset for future generations.

If you seek to acquire a remarkable literary heritage or present an unforgettable gift to a Poe aficionado, this 1872 printing is an impeccable choice. Its exquisite craftsmanship, enchanting illustrations, and timeless allure make it a treasure beyond compare.

The overall condition of this book is very good, especially since it was printed 65 years before the First World War of 1914. It displays some typical aging attributes associated with A printing over 150 years old. This includes some shelf wear and age to the covers and spine, although they still display beautifully, and the gold gilt is still sparkling. The binding is solid and tight, with all pages firmly secured to the binding. The interior pages are naturally age-toned and will contain the occasional age spot. Two pages are connected at the inner margin more than the others, which doesn't affect their opening, nor does it affect reading them. One page on the opposite side has incurred a scrape to the outer margin area but does not touch any art or text. I have been through this book very thoroughly and can attest to it being in exceptionally well-preserved condition for this type of age—a lovely book.

Edgar Allan Poe born Edgar Poe; January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American writer, poet, editor, and literary critic. Poe is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his mystery and macabre tales. He is widely regarded as a central figure of Romanticism in the United States and American literature and was one of the country's earliest practitioners of the short story. He is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre and is further credited with contributing to the emerging science fiction genre. He was the first well-known American writer to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.
