London: Macmillan and Co, 1914. First edition, 5th printing. Near fine. 8vo, 7 1/2 x 5 in (185 x 130 mm); pp. lxxiii, 508. Portrait frontispiece with tissue guard, unsigned. three-quarter dark blue calf and cloth binding, with gilt fillets, spine gilt in compartments with 5 raised bands, title in gilt, slightly sunned; top edge gilt, others uncut; faint foxing to uncut edges, first and last few leaves; binding tight and square.
[Bateson v. 3, p. 273]. Christina Rossetti is known as the greatest female poet of the Victorian age and was featured often in the paintings of her brother, Dante Gabriel Rossetti. By the time of her death in 1898 she had written eleven hundred poems and had published over nine hundred of them. This beautifully-bound volume includes an Index to First Lines and extensive notes by her brother, William Michael Rossetti who was one of the seven founding members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, and became the movement's unofficial organizer and bibliographer.
