Winchester, Virginia: J. Foster, 1816. First edition, 1816. Scarce title by this itinerant preacher and poet original from North Carolina, featuring a long poem full of historical references and with an overtly moral message. Early 19th century binding in full calf with tan spine label, 219 page plus errata. Covers rubbed, spine dried (but stabilized) and chipped at the extremities, spine label lightly chipped around the edges, free endpapers removed, section of title page - a horizontal strip that removed words "primeval and present" and "mankind" from the title - torn away, text block sound, pages foxed and lightly age-toned but clean, ink spot on title page below "poetical", names (Wm. Hutchinson, James Hutchinson) on front and rear pastedowns, no other markings. Sabin 63639.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
