About This Item

Paris: Charpentier, 1896. Leather. Good. 7" by 5". None. A collection of Alfred de Musset's poetry. In original French. This edition includes 'Rolla', 'La Nuit de Mai', 'Sur La Paresse', 'Le 13 Juillet' and 'A Mon Frere' as well as several other poems. Alfred Louis Charles de Musset-Pathay was a French dramatist, poet and novelist. He was born in Paris to an upper-class but poor family. He was the librarian of the French ministry of the Interior for the July Monarchy. Several of Musset's poems were used by composers of the 19th century for songs. His 'La Nuit de Mai' (51-58pp) was used by Ruggero Leoncavallo for his symphonic poem. In a half calf binding. Externally, sound with rubbing particularly to the spine and joints. Institutional barcode sticker and stamp to recto of front pastedown. Library record plate to recto of front free endpaper, and library bookplate to verso of front endpaper, University of Keele. University of Keele blind stamp to the title page and page 51. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are age-toned due to paper used otherwise generally clean. Good
