About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., 1889. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 6.5" by 4.5". None. A collection of poetry and sermons, written by Charles Kingsley, a broad church priest of the Church of England. Kingsley was a notable social reformer, university professor, historian and novelist. He was a friend and correspondent with Charles Darwin. Charles Kingsley is probably best known for his classic The Water-Babies which illustrates his concern for social reform. The tale retained its popularity well into the twentieth century. He wrote several poems and hymns, including 'The Saint's Tragedy', 'Andromeda' and 'A Thought From the Rhine' all of which are present to this volume. In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with some minor rubbing to the head and tail of spine and patches of rubbing to the extremities. There is also some minor rubbing to the paper covered boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with the odd spot throughout. Very Good Indeed
