London: Printed [by N. Biggs] for J. Wallis, 1804. 64pp. With an engraved frontispiece. Original publisher's two-tone paper boards. Extremities worn and shaken, backstrip perished. Without endpapers, hinges exposed, early inscription to verso of upper board: 'Ellen Clarkson's book', inscription to verso of lower board: 'When read to be returned to Mrs. Clarkson, Theescombe', short tear to gutter of frontispiece, scattered spotting. The third located copy of the sole edition of an anonymous series of eight short moral tales, emphasising kindness to creatures of nature, and warning of domestic dangers, such as with 'The Burnt Child', in which a careless young girl is very nearly immolated after foolishly lighting a piece of paper with an unguarded candle. The usual databases record copies at only two locations (Oxford and Toronto). . First edition. 16mo.
