"PLATFORM ECHOES" - or, Living Truths for Head and Heart by John B. Gough. 1886; A.D. Worthington & Co.; Hartford, CT. Richly illustrated with both full-page engravings and in-text illustrations. The book contains "five hundred thrilling anecdotes and incidents, humorous stories, personal experiences and adventures, touching home scenes, and tales of tender pathos, drawn from The Bright and Shady Sides of Life." With a history of Gough's life and work by Rev. Lyman Abbott (Gough was a temperance orator who devoted his life to lecturing on temperance reform). Decorative floral end papers.
Condition:
Some light soiling to the covers; bright gilt lettering and decorations on the front cover and spine; the red cloth on the spine has faded a bit; small cloth tears at the corner tips. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a crack at the front hinge between the frontispiece and title pages resulting in the front cover being a bit shaky. The illustrated title page has a 1" horizontal tear at the inner edge by the spine. The pages are mostly clean with only some random pages here and there with light smudging and small stains. There is a Reverend's name stamped in ink on a front end paper. Overall the book is in Good condition.
