Contents include (cf. our photos)-- My Warhol Experience(s), 1947-1950 and a Little Beyond, by Philip Pearlstein; and The Masked Figure: New Work by Philip Pearlstein, by Jessica Beck. Illustrated in B&W and color reproductions of the artists' works--Andy Warhol, Philip Pearlstein and Dorothy Cantor. 'For Pearlstein and Warhol, the differences in their mature work may have been foreshadowed by their diverse approaches to identical artistic challenges assigned by their professors. Pearlstein provided extensive, detailed verbal analyses and intricate visual details. Warhol gave just enough information to let his audience reach their own understanding, which might explain why he was so often on the verge of being thrown out of college.... While much less known to the art world, Cantor's aesthetic interest was in the volumes and masses of modern engineeng: bridges, roadways, and the stairs, tunnels and platforms of the New York subway system. ... The museum is very pleased to present Philip's memoir of his time with Warhol. His essay features previously unpublished material that helps us to better understand their experiences in those early years.' (-from Foreword by Matt Wrbican, chief archivist of the museum). Includes gallery checklist of works.
