Actually 43 recipes endorsed by USFA WW I recipes promoting cutting wheat flour with other cereals with such products as Pillsbury's "All ready Rye and Wheat", "White Rye & Wheat", "Bohemian Style Rye& Wheat", "Dark Rye & Wheat" which we would learn decades later is better for you anyway. 1918 advertisement in Rural New Yorker Vol. 77 reads: "...A Free Booklet If any of these war time wheat flour substitutes are new to you and you are not fully informed as to how to use them send for a copy of a free booklet entitled Pillsbury's 40 War Time Recipes. This book will be mailed to you free upon application. If its recipes are carefully followed you will find you can prepare delicious dishes in good variety. These recipes will help you avoid poor results and disappointments incident thereto. They will show you that these substitutes are useable and likable and that should not be prejudiced against their use. Pillsbury Flour Mills Company Dept F 12 Minneapolis Minn". Nearly perfect copy of a scarce pamphlet from the company founded in 1872 by Charles Alfred Pillsbury and his uncle John S. Pillsbury with their 1st famous bake-off in 1949 and purchased by General Mills in 2001..
