Hamish Hamilton, 1946. 1st UK Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 86pp. Blue cloth boards (sharp, bright, a little rounded at spine tips). Lending sheet on front free endpaper, no other library markings. Occasional foxing, dusty text block edge. In its original worn and edge-rubbed dust jacket (faded, visible shelf wear on verso). Dust jacket now in archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong the life of the jacket. It is not adhered to the book or to the dust jacket. A pleasing and in many ways perfect little novel that has recently undergone a revival, and which has been hard to find despite a 1960s reprint.
Synopsis
Glenway Wescott (1901-1987) was the author of the novels The Grandmothers and Apartment in Athens , in addition to several collections of stories and essays. His life—as revealed in his published journals and a joint biography of him and his lover, Monroe Wheeler—has been the subject of increasing interest in recent years. Michael Cunningham is the author of the novels A Home at the End of the World , Flesh and Blood , The Hours (winner of the Pen/Faulkner Award & Pulitzer Prize), and Specimen Days . He lives in New York.
