Rome: E.N.I.T. (Italian State Tourist Department), 1927. Staplebound. 16 pp., illustrations, color printed wraps. 6.5 x 4.75 in. "Edizione Inglese" (English Edition). Printed by Soc. Tip. Castaldi. Cover illustration signed "RS." Ink stamp on page [2] of covers: "Italian Tourist Information Office, 604 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, Calif. (Italian Chamber of Commerce)." Date of publication inferred from internal evidence. A promotional brochure for English-speaking tourists headed to Italy. Covers two towns in Tuscany. Pienza is embellished as the birthplace of Pope Pius II. Montepulciano is marketed as the birthplace of the poet Poliziano. Both sections feature photographs of churches and other buildings, as well as suggestions for other sites of interests within walking distance. A map of the region is printed on the rear cover. The publication was co-sponsored by the Ferrovie dello Stato, the nationalized railway system founded in 1905. The expansion of the railroads was among the modernization schemes implemented by the Fascist government. A German edition was also issued.
