About This Item

The Pied Piper of Hamelin, trial issue of the first edition, presentation inscription from the printer Edmund Evans "Ada Mary Evans Christmas 1888, Bound Proofs. E.E." on front free endpaper, beautiful color illustrations by Kate Greenaway, some foxing, bookplate of Alain de Suzannet, original cloth-backed glazed pictorial boards, some wear to corners, extremities little rubbed, else excellent, 4to, London, Glasgow & New York,[1888].

Note- This differs from the first published edition in containing only 63 printed pages instead of 64. The three lower figures on p.52 were later placed separately on p.53, with pp.53-63 in this trial issue becoming pp.54-64 in the published version. The text on other pages is also differently set. An excellent pre-publishing trial copy with unique points and printer's gift inscription; collector's item.
