First edition of the earliest known guide book to New York City. Worn half calf over marbled boards sans map. The contents pages 217- 223 are inserted before the text. Wear to tail of spine and corners (see images). Previous owner's name smudged to front pastedown. Samuel Mitchell was a U.S. senator from New York from 1804 to 1809, as well as a member of the House of Representatives. Howes M-703. Remains a clean copy with no defacements.
