Uniformly bound in period 3/4 brown morocco over pebbled cloth, spines with raised bands and gilt tooling, elaborately gilt large globe designs at center of front covers, marbled edges and endpapers (spines faded; some wear to edges; small chip to top of spine of volume one; spines split on front hinge & pulling away; upper hinge of volume III cracked and pulling away). PROVENANCE: Bookplate of Thomas L. Jacobs in each volume.Steel-engraved Plates; b/w Illustrations in Text.
