About This Item

London: Virtue & Co. Hardcover. Fair/N/a. This is a set of 8 books which are divisions of the 2 volumns of this history. They have blue embossed boards with gold crest near centred. Gold lettering and design on the spine. Following is a description of each book of the set: All have extensive history and beautiful steel engravings. Book 1 is missing part of the spine covering and the front hinge is cracked. Considerable edgewear. Front inside page is loose and has pencil writing on it. Next page has an engraving of The Regent Moray. After a few tissue guards (on of which has a small tear) is a picture of coins. No volumne or contents info. Book 2 opens with engraving of John KnoxNoticiable edgewear and some bumping. Some pages uncut and small mark underneath cover crest.Book 3 Some edgewear and bumping First engraving Battlefield at Preston Book 4 Some edgewear and small tears on rear board. First engraving of Sir William Wallace. Book 5Edgewear and tears on spine. First engraving scene of the battle of Drumclos.Book 6 edgewear part at spine and lower edge. First engraving James VI. Book 7 Edgewear and chip on upper spine and bumping. Small dent in rear board. Book 8 Some edgewear part lower spine First engraving James VII. At the rear of this book is the Index Title page for Vol 1, contents for each chapter and Title page and dedications for Vol 2. The illustration phrase is underlined in pen. No date given. I think it is the late 1800s and probably somewhat later than the 2 and 3 vol sets. This set is heavy - over 5 kg. Will cost extra to ship. Price reflects cover condition.
