Light wear to spine ends and corners, front inner hinge starting, else very good. Presentation inscription on front free endpaper, "For Mr. William E. Connelley with the compliments of the author, LaSalle Corbell Pickett 'Yes,' he replied but think of the men who stormed these heights.' page 408." Connelley wrote several histories of Kansas. "Too sympathetic towards the subject to be of intrinsic value; like Mrs. James Longstreet, Mrs. Pickett never moderated her defense of her husband" Nevins I, p 146.
