London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1834 Often quoted work on the 'science' of physiognomy/phrenology. This copy bound in blue cloth with darker blue leather spine, spine decoration in gilt. blank endpaper, frontis, tp, [iii]-vi, list of embellishments, erratum, [1]-286, ad for The Nervous System by Walker, "in the press and sppedily will be published", blank endpaper. Illustrated with numerous drawings. Offsetting where an old newspaper illustration of Professor Laynard's work was laid in [now laid in back], foxed frontis only. All edges gilt, wear at spine extremities, spine decorations lightly rubbed but still quite bright. Worldcat locates but three titles, one in the US and two in UK libraries.
