Gelatin silver print Photo Archive for Illinois National Guard, 1936-1984. 8 original, black and white press photos. Various large format sizes, ranging from 9 x 7 in. to 10 x 8 in. 3 photos (from 1966 and 1968) include press caption printed on front in image margin. Other 5 include captions taped or pasted to back. These original press photo taken by photojournalist within tight timeframe for the benefit of particular editorial board and with the aim of usage by the press to illustate an article often affected public opinion in the nation.
Includes photos of Guardsmen on patrol, such as the photos of the 1966 Chicago Riots and photos of the infamous 1968 Democratic National Convention. Collection also features many training images, through which one sees the development of military technology through the 20th century, from horses to helicopters. Light, even toning. Minor handling dents and folds, especially at edges and corners. 3 photos have heavier rippling. Various annotations and stamps primarily verso not affecting image. Very good.
