FIRST PRINTING.Menckens classic biography of the oft-misunderstood (especially in the early 20th century) philosopher. CONDITION: Very Good to near fine condition. Corners lightly bumped, NOT affecting any pages. Gilt bright. Former owner's name (Chauncey Hackett) in pencil along with a line of text: Except for the picture of N. + a few facts this book is worthless because the author is an ass-. Perhaps this editorial is why the book is largely unopened! First binding state with "The Philosophy of Nietzsche" on the spine. Original gilt-stamped maroon cloth. Mencken's third book, not issued with a dust wrapper until the Fifth Edition. Adler 5. Schrader A3.1a.
