About This Item

Muenster, Saskatchewan, Canada: St. Peters Press, 1994. Soft cover. Very Good. In Very Good Condition. No Notes, Names or Markings. Minor Wear/Tear To Edges and/or Turned Corners. - For More Information On Condition. Please See All Photos. Vintage 1994 Brazil's war on her street children has come on-stage worldwide. This has provoked a lot of hypocritical posturing by Brazil's politicians and other public figures. In none of their responses to the July 1993 massacre at Candelaria church in Rio de Janeiro did any of them point to the lack of agrarian reform as the prime breeder of street children. The huge growth of population in recent years in all Brazil's metropolitan centers comes in part from dispossessed rural workers, as plantation owners mechanize or change an operation from, for example, growing cane to cattle raising. Such dismissed families drift to the cities swelling the slums. Their children often run from slum squalor and violence to the city center, there to beg from or prey on "solid" citizens, tourists included.
