About This Item

Barre, MA: Barre Publishers, 1971. Hardcover. VG-/G (book has light foxing on the top third of textblock, all pages clear and intact - dust jacket shows some wear at spine with small tear in top front, still protective). Grey cloth boards with black spine, black illustration on cover and silver lettering on spine, black illustrated dust jacket with gray and green lettering; xviv, 276 pp. plates 79 - 115 (a continuation from the first two volumes) illustrate objects 685 - 943. "This is the long-awaited, totally new addition to this classic of American pweter scholarship. Volume III supplements the already large body of information contained in the earlier volumes and adds all the pertinent material on the subject which has come to light on pewter, its makers and their marks in the last thirty yerars since the first volumes originally appeared. Included in the new material is much new information about the pweterers discussed in the previous volumes, as well as the histories of some fifty additional makers with illustrations of a like number of newly recorded touches. There is a fuller discussion of the Britannia period and a listing of more than seventy additional Britannia shops. The chapter on 'Dethroned Pewterers' brings up to date the matter of mistaken attributions." - dust jacket description.
