About This Item
Edinburgh: Archibald Constable and Co., 1822 First Edition, First Issue (see bibliography Todd & Bowden 165Aa] ), Edinburgh 1822.
Books are very good and bound in contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Text block edges in light green. Former owner's Ex-libris on the front endpapers. Small pencil notes on the endpapers of Vol.1 and 4. Titled and heavily decorated in gilt to spine panels. Some chipping to extremities, cosmetic edgewear, some rubbing to the boards, nevertheless strong solid and handsome. Pages are bright with just some odd spots.Light tanned stains to the preliminary leaves and half-title of all volumes. Bound with half titles. Publishers advertisement on back side of half-title of Vol.1. An extremly attractive and scarce set.
FYI: Scott did not publicly acknowledge authorship until 1827. So the author in this book is mentioned as 'Author of Waverley, Guy Mannering and The Antiquary'.
