Top edge tinted a light gray. Tight. 1927 inked name inside cover. 7.5"x5", 244pp. . In 1904 the Africans of Namibia rebelled against their German masters. Franssen fictionalised the rebellion's put down in this book. The title charactor, Peter Moor, was one of the German soldiers sent down to quell the rebellion. He was a popular German novelist and this was one of his most read. From the translator's preface: "I have always felt that all war stories dwell too much on the glory and glamour of war, and too little on the hardships and horrors...". Wikipedia says this book was a good portrayal of the downsides of for a common German soldiers in this war. (Wiki also says the portrayal was strictly one sided). Frenssen later became an enthusiastic supporter of Hitler's antisemetic policys. .
