St. Petersburg: Ekspeditsii Zagotovlenya Gosudarstvennykh Bumag, 1899. 4to, 8pp. Single sheet, accordion folded into 6 leaves, [leporello style] with a printed page as front cover and another as rear cover. Four lush color chromolithographs, decorative initials, and full-color head- and tail-pieces by Vasnetsov. Corners a bit worn, edges lightly so, covers lightly soiled, else internally a sharp, bright copy. Rare.
First editon. Vasnetsov's most famous illustrated work, published on May 26 1899 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Pushkin's birth. Vasntsov's chromolithographs are truly enchanting – bursting with glorious color and capturing the power of Pushkin's lush tale. Kilgour 897.
