Octavo, [two volumes], xiii, 500pp; xi, 486pp. Green cloth, title in gilt on spines, decorative gilt illustration on covers, shelf wear to tips of spines, light rubbing to gilt on Volume I. Solid text block in both volumes. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume, some transference to tissue and title page. Multiple illustrated maps and illustrations, complete in both volumes. Large fold-out map of the Battle of Winchester (Eicher 572) (Nevins II: 88) A solid example. Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant.
