About This Item

The first edition, first state, of one of Charles Dickens' most famous works. Evidence of state includes the misaligned i on page vii, chapter XXVII is on page 282 rather than 283, misspelled "coroboration" on page on page 387 (line 6), etc. All the illustrations are there and for the most part the images are in good condition, although a few are missing their glassine covers and most have extensive foxing around the edges. The narrative pages are in good - very good condition. The covers may have been reboun They are hard, beveled board with leather strips along sides adjacent to spine and triangular leather coverings at each of the corners. There is evidence of some rubbing in the upper left quadrant of the back cover - about 1.5 inches in diameter just below the the triangular leather corner cover. Light fraying at the corners and along the sides of the spine. A bookplate is pasted on the inside of the front cover.

The spine is tooled leather with with horizontal gold stripes and gold link designs. "David Copperfield" with a red background appears within the the second and third bands. "Dickens" appears between the 4th and 5th bands. There are some small dings along the spine and light fraying at the top and bottom. However the title and author's name are clear. and unblemished. .
