About This Item

Leipzig: Tauchnitz, 1850. First Thus . Hardcover. Good/No DJ as Issued. 1849 (Vol.I); 1850 (Vol. II + III); "Copyright Edition", published in the same year as the Bradbury & Evans edition. Collection of British Authors Vol. CLXXV, CLXXVI, CLXXVII; 3 volume set; 391, 384, 383 pages; blue half cloth with marbled boards and gilt lettering on spine. Very early English language edition (published in Germany), 15,5 x 11,5 cm. Complete Title: The Personal History, Adventures, Experience, and Observation of David Copperfield the Younger, of Blunderstone Rookery (which he never meant to be published on any account). Original paper wraps retained but pasted over by marbled endpapers when rebound. Boards have visible rub marks, rubbed through on corners, but gilt lettering and features on spine look nice. No foxing or blemishes or distracting yellowing but there are random pen and pencil marks throughout, small and discrete usually in the margins (see photos for typical examples) not very noticeable at first glance. All three volumes signed "Roger Perrineau, July 1942" on FFEP. Binding handles well but is compromised by cracks in front and back gutters of all 3 volumes.
