About This Item

London: William Blackwood & Sons. 1910. Octavo, original cloth boards, title in gilt, front cover decorated in gilt, folding map, many b&w illustrations. Ex-library with fairly minimal markings (including small stamps to the reverse of plates), small area of damage to one plate. Corners bumped and lightly rubbed. Label removed. A fair copy of a scarce title. The author was Special Correspondent to The Times. He revisited Persia, spent 1909 in Teheran, and travelled to the Persian Gulf, Mesopotamia and Syria, reflecting on "the more prominent features of Persian and Turkish affairs as they appear in Constitutional days". (The author had previously travelled through modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Iraq to write "The Short Cut to India. The Record of a journey along the Route of the Baghdad Railway".) 1st edition.
