Pages fine; no writing except for a touching inscription on front free endpaper from parents to child. Frontispiece color plate in subdued hues of small ones arriving at night house castle of stone: "They reached the house where the light was burning." Bind fine; hinges intact. Scarce original dust wrapper, light shelf wear on tips and base of spine; unclipped 5.95. Illustrated throughout with the enchanting imagery of W. Heath Robinson. The fairy tales of the master Charles Perrault are presented here in a complete collection that includes the classics, but three originally in verse - "The Ridiculous Wishes," "Donkey-Skin" and "Patient Griselda." Perrault (1628-1703) enjoyed distinction in his day as a figure in French literary circles but especially known widely for his magical fairy tales. His memory will endure as long as there are children to enjoy. The stories are illustrated with the ever-popular drawings of W. Heath Robinson. Three other French fairy favorites from the pens of Mme. Leprince de Beaumont and Mme. d'Aulnoy are included.
