New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1908. Hardcover. 12mo. Full calf with gilt title and rules. 47pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece. Very good overall. Edgeworn and with spine rough and worn, though internally fine. Unusual, seldom seen early printing of this popular 1906 fictional treatment of the writing of the Gettysburg Address in full leather. Front pastedown bears bookplate of noted Presbyterian pastor Herbert Mortimer Gesner (1869-1961), author of "The Life Worth Living; or, The Religion of Christ" (1915). MONAGHAN 1485 note.
Reviews
On Dec 20 2020, a reader said:
A perfect tribute to the modesty, kindness and pure humanity of Lincoln. Her story teaches us the strength of love over hate, of humility over arrogance, of kindness over winning. In this fiction comes a truth fir all to see: only the strong can be gentle; and only the great can endure personal hardship and strengthen others.
