About This Item
New York, 1885. Very good. One printed leaf, folded once into 4 pages. Each page approximately 5 1/2" x 9 3/8". The nativist group known as the Central Committee for Protecting & Perpetuating the Separation of Church & State argued strongly against using public funds to suppport Catholic schools. Children enrolled in these parochial schools came primarily from immigrant families. This particular leaflet announced that the Central Committee "contains representatives of the leading charitable institutions of New York and Brooklyn, and other prominent citizens." The Separation of Church and State Endorsed by President Grant, a large majority in Congress, and both Political Platforms in 1876. Two crease marks from folding and a few tiny spots. Otherwise a clean copy of a fragile leaflet.
