Commemorative centennial company publication, finely produced. Cabinetmaker and inventive piano developer Henry Engelhard Steinway began building his first piano in the family kitchen in provincial Seesen, Germany, in 1836. Political turmoil in 1849 encouraged the liberal family to leave for New York, the Steinways and 7 of 8 children. By 1853, the firm of Steinway & Sons was formed. Including numerous archival photos and documents, pages of facsimile autographs of Steinway artists among them.
