About This Item

London: Dennis Dobson, 1946. Gilt title on blue cloth boards which are very clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there is a small name to front endpaper and light foxing to closed edges and endpapers else very clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good + copy. Dustjacket has light wear to edges, two small repaired closed tears and is not price clipped.232 pages. 5 illustrations. Translated from the French by Ruth Bethell. Charles Péguy (1873-1914) was a noted French poet, essayist, and editor, and Catholicism strongly influenced his works. It is remarkable that no book has yet been produced in England about Péguy, and this translation from the French fills the gap. It is a complete biography taking in the whole of Péguy's life from childhood to his death on the Marne in 1914, by a bullet to the forehead. The author was his friend and colleague for many years. C3A. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
