Dean's ancestor arrived in America from Morocco with a reformed pirate in 1740, and eventually settled in Philadelphia. 135 years later, at the age of 12, Harry Dean went to sea with his uncle, captain of a barkentine preparing for a round-the-world voyage. And thus begins a lifetime of adventure . recorded here with the help of Sterling North (North's first book, incidentally).
