About This Item
French. Tight, square spine. Clean, unmarked interior except for a former owner inscription to the half-title. Some light toning to the wraps, very gentle edge-wear, and a faint former owner stamps to the top edge. Founded in 1935, Le Seuil is notable for publishing the first edition of Fanon's seminal first book in 1952; this chic little edition was issued nearly two decades later as part of the house's Points series. Fanon drafted the work as his dissertation, which was rejected while he was a student at Lyon, where he attended lectures by Merleau-Ponty and endured ongoing racism. The book, which discusses the sinister effects colonialism and racism have on language, is known for its resounding challenge to Descartes: 'O my body, make of me a man who always questions!' 188 pp.
