First American edition, originally published in the UK a year earlier. Hardcover, full blue cloth, gilt titling. Light wear, hint of foxing to fore-edge; jacket lightly worn with some edge chipping, scuffs to rear panel, minor stains on spine. Text clean; xx, 428 pages; index, 94 b/w photogravure plates, one color plate, three maps, as called for; a few figures.. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. Octavo.
