About This Item

Moscow: Gosizdat RSFSR - Moskovskii rabochii, 1930. 28 pp. 16,5x10 cm. In original illustrated wrappers. Very good, pale foxing on covers and title page, small spot on outer margin of last leavesб ink number on front cover.
A cheap propaganda brochure of the Stalinist era. It was issued in a series 'Knizhka kopeika' [Penny book] mainly selling fragile books of short stories. This one warned Soviet people about the aggressive policy of bourgeois countries and their preparation for the start of another world war and a war against the Soviet Union in particular.
The author is a prominent Soviet military officer and politician, the first Marshal of the Soviet Union, Kliment Voroshilov (1881-1969). He emphasized that after the Treaty of Versailles, European countries started military actions against their colonies and controlled territories in Africa and Asia: all of them meant dependence of any war on imperialism. He published increasing amounts of firearms and military equipment in other countries that also developed chemical weapons and advanced their armies in every possible way. The text urged readers to take up arms and create the most powerful army of workers and peasants.
The text was adapted and published in all national languages of Soviet republics: Jewish, Mari, Kyrgyz, Chuvash, etc. The back cover features three advertisements of government loans, including a lottery of Osoaviakhim, the largest organization for arming, aviation and chemical defence during the period of Stalin's power.
