London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1853. First Printing. Hardcover. Very good. 2 volumes, bound in contemporary full polished tawny calf, raised bands, gilt spines. Very good, spines a little dull, some darkening along joints and edges, minor wear and rubbing, some old inscriptions on first blank, first volume; texts clean and unmarked. Chesterton participated in the War of 1812 and was present at the burning of Washington and later in New Orleans. Howes C354.
