London: Orr & Smith/William S. Orr & Co, 1834. Sixteen octavo volumes (9 ? x 6 ½ inches; 236 x 166 mm). With 717 hand-colored engraved or lithographed plates. Numerous wood engravings in the text. Including the rarely present volume XVI. With an additional 5 colored plates on ornaments, and one unnumbered plate.
Half green morocco over green cloth boards. Gilt decoration and lettering on the spine. Spines lightly sunned and extremities slightly bumped. Overall a very good complete set.
Joseph Paxton was the head gardener to the Duke of Devonshire for whom he cultivated and developed one of the most famous European gardens.
