About This Item

New York: New Directions, 1958. First Printing. Hardcover. Very good/good. 5 volumes, uniformly bound in grayish-cream-yellow cloth, all books very good with some offsetting to endpapers and light toning to texts, third volume with "19 cents" stamped in ink on flyleaf, fourth volume with light foxing to the binding. Jackets range from good to very good: Book I has 4" tear to top of front panel, general light soil and darkening, light wear, small charcoal streak above title on front panel; Book II is good to very good with general toning and darkening, especially to edges and spine; Book II with light wear, toning, darkening and soil, small tear and attendant creases to upper right corner of rear panel; Book IV with similar toning, darkening, light wear and soil, some signs of waterstains to bottom of spine area and along middle-right of front panel; Book V with general toning and darkening, small faint stains to front panel, light stains and soil to rear panel. Not the prettiest set, but in their dust jackets and a fairly attractive set all in all, a Connolly 100 title and considered one of the great poem cycles of the 20th century.
