About This Item
Madrid: Cedesa, 1959. First edition. Softcover. g- to vg-. Octavo. 129pp. [1]. Black, white and red red dust jacket illustrated with photo-collage, with red lettering. Tan stiff paper wrappers with red lettering on the front cover. This work of right-wing anti-socialist propaganda, was published for a French readership, at the time when Spain was still in the grips of the Franco Dictatorship. The text throughout is a mixture of reproductions of extracts from various books and periodicals in English, combined with text commentary in French. Includes numerous b/w photographic reproductions throughout. Although no author or editor is credited, it is possible that the work was produced by Luis González de Linares (1904-1997), whose business card can be found laid in at the interior front cover. Apparently this is the case with many other known copies of the book, which implies it was given to various significant French individuals as propaganda by Linares. At the time the Spanish writer and journalist was serving as official press attaché from the Spanish embassy in France, and later became the embassy's Minister of Information and Tourism.
Text in French and English.
Dust jacket with some light chipping and creasing to extremities, including the head and tail of the spine. Wrappers with minor bumping to corners. Starting at the gutter of the interior front cover. The first three leaves are detached but present. Staining to the rear free endpaper. Book block tight overall, with text and images all clean and bright. Dj in good-, wrappers and interior in very good- condition overall. Protected in modern mylar.
