New York: Harper and Brothers. Good+ with No dust jacket as issued. 1867. First Edition. Hardcover. Book has bookplate and signature of J. Henley Smith who served in Company D of the 43th Battalion of the Virginia Cavalry (Mosby's Rangers). Binding is a rust colored cloth with gilt titles and decoration (a mounted cavalryman charging with drawn pistol and plumed hat on spine). Covers show wear -- spine ends missing about 1/8" and mended tear to top 1/2" of spine. There is a 1.5" split in the cloth outer hinge at top right of spine. Light general soiling to covers. Corners worn through. A small newspaper clipping concerning the publication of a book vindicating Stuart's actions at Gettysburg has been glued to the corner of a a blank page leaving a discolored image on the page opposite. Leading pages through title page show light general wear / soiling to edges, corners, surfaces. Text block is tight, clean and printed on good quality paper. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 492 pages; Signed by Associated .
