About This Item
Chapel Hill, NC: UNC Press, 1981. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good+/DJ Very Good. navy blue cloth, 1st ed.(1981), 227 pages in Very Good ( with very faded spine, short tears) Dust Jacket. Textblock edge speckled; text unmarked. The dj is now protected in a mylar sleeve. A Very Good copy in Very Good dust jacket. The predominant twentieth-century view of the French Revolution argues that it began as an aristocratic class insurgency in 1787-88. Stone challenges this theory by showing that parlements, the high judicial bodies that exercised the royal powers of justice, neither initiated nor sustained an aristocratic insurgency against the Crown. In reality, they championed the traditional balance of social forces in France.
