New York: J. H. Colton & Co., 1856. RARE MAP -> Exhibiting her Iron, Lead, Copper, Coal and other geological resources and all railroads completed, in progress and projected. Compiled from US Surveys and personal reconnoisance by Nathan H. Parker author of "Iowa As It Is", Clinton, Iowa 1856. DB Cooke & Co., Chicago, Ill. Brown embossed cloth covers with gilt titles. Former owner name inscribed (Chas. Foster, Washington, Iowa). Beautiful hand colored blocks by county. List of Railroads in Iowa. Very detailed map with scroll worked borders. Inset of Iowa & Eastern Railroads. Map still attached to back cover. No notations or pencil marks on map. Very delicate condition. 17" vertical tear from bottom of Crawford County through Emmett County and top margin. 3" vertical tear through Alamakee County and top margin. 2¼" vertical fold tear in right quarter of Clinton County. Approximately 6" x 3/4" area missing along middle left outside border. Other small fold and edge tears. Age toned at folds. Tiny insect stains and minor foxing on back of map when folded. Pastedown on inside front cover cracked. Covers are still intact and in outstanding condition showing full gilt with only minimal wear to extremeties. Overall very nice and rather clean specimen.. Cloth. 33 x 48" Map Folds Into 4¼" x 6½" Boards.
