Hardcover. Good. NOT a reprint. Very good though very subtly ex-library with only one library indication: embossed library stamp (uncolored) on first title page (vol. 1) . Two volumes bound in one, buff cloth and marbled boards, circa 20th C. rebinding no titling or library or ownership marks exterior. Hardcover, in no djacket First ed., first printing. New York, Wiley and Putnam, 1846. Toning and some foxing though overall clean. Binding VG. Complete. 8vo: [viii] + 164 pp; [iv] + 183 pp. Bound together in contemporary half calf binding, gilt, marbled boards and endpapers. A tight copy, printed on aged, spotted paper, with occasional light damp-spotting, in worn binding. Bookplate of Aemiliani Reich, on spotted, aged paper, by Gordon Browne, on front pastedown. The first volume has a four-page preface by 'S.M.F.', dated 'New York, July, 1846.' Both volumes contain eight essays. Those in the first volume include 'The Two Herberts', 'The Prose Works of Milton', 'The Life of Sir James Mackintosh' and 'Dialogue, containing sundry glosses on poetic texts'. Those in the second volume include 'Miss Barrett's Poems', 'Browning's Poems', 'A record of impressions produced by the exhibition of Mr. Allston's pictures, in the summer of 1839', 'Swedenborgianism'. The second volume with appendix: 'The Tragedy of Witchcraft'.
